AIR NIUGINI IS COMMITTED TO SAFETY
âOur top priority at Air Niugini is ensuring the highest levels of safety for our passengers, crew, and the public.â
âWe are fully committed to this goal and will take all necessary measures to maintain safety standards.â
Thatâs from Air Niuginiâs Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Gary Seddon, following recent flight delays and queries from the traveling public.
âThis includes the possibility of delaying or cancelling a flight due to factors such as bad weather, security issues, technical problems, or operational requirements.â
Seddon said that the airlineâs dedication to safety is unwavering and will not compromise for any reason.
âWhile the inconvenience caused is regrettable, safety will always be given priority over other interests.â
Seddon added that the company boasted a team of highly skilled engineers and maintenance personnel who are dedicated to safety and work tirelessly day and night to ensure that the aircrafts are safe to operate.
âSince April of last year, Air Niugini has operated over 26,000 flights and carried 1.2 million passengers.â
âLast month, they operated over 2,000 flights and carried 102 thousand passengers.â
âWith 92.21% of sectors completed, over 7% of the flights were cancelled, for various reasons.
Over the same period, Jetstar cancelled 6.4% of its flights, Qantas 4.4% and Virgin Australia 3.5%.â
He added, âWhile the Fokker jets have served the country well, it's time to replace them with larger modern aircraft that features the latest technology with enhanced fuel efficiency.â
In addition, Seddon stated that Air Niugini has reviewed various new fleet options narrowing the selection to the new Airbus A220 and Embraer E2 regional jets.
âThis will enable Air Niugini to better serve its domestic and regional markets.â
Meanwhile, in the interim, Air Niugini is in the process of acquiring six Boeing 737-800 and Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, expected from September this year.

AIR NIUGINI RESUMES FOKKER JET SERVICES TO MOUNT HAGEN
Air Niugini wishes to advise the travelling public that the airline has resumed its Fokker jet services to Mount Hagen cityâs Kagamuga Airport, Western Highlands Province effective from Tuesday 18th April 2023.
The resumption of Fokker flights follows the completion of runway maintenance and repair works by the National Airports Corporation (NAC).
Since the work on the critical section of airport runway commenced on 08th March, Air Niugini has maintained air services to Mount Hagen using smaller Dash-8 aircraft, but with passenger numbers restricted to as few as 23 at times because of the shortened runway.
According to Air Niugini Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Gary Seddon said, the last six weeks of restricted operations at Mount Hagen has been inconvenient for both the customers, business houses around Mount Hagen, and the airline.
However, Seddon commended the work done by NAC to repair the runway and return it to the standard required for jet aircraft.
âAir Niugini is pleased that the works are now complete and we can resume our Fokker 100/70 jet services into Mount Hagen airport.â
In addition, effective from the 19th of August, Air Niugini will operate up to four Fokker jet services each day between Port Moresby and Mount Hagen.
Safety is paramount in their operations, and Air Niugini appreciates the travelling publicâs patience and understanding on these matters.

PM OFFICIALLY OPENS BIALLA COURT HOUSE
Court cases in the West New Britain (WNB) province will now be better dealt with now that the province has a new Court House, which was officially opened in Bialla on Friday 14th April.
The Bialla Court Complex, which will house both the District and the National Courts, was built with a funding cost of K9.1million.
During his keynote address, Prime Minister (PM) James Marape made a verbal commitment to build the same type of facilities for other districts right across the country.
âI am aware of the Judiciary's planned reforms for a three tiered Court system that will see the Court of appeals as well as the District and National Courts brought to the districts closer to the people. With that, the Minister for Justice and Attorney General Pila Niningi, will be bringing a paper to cabinet next week.â
PM Marape informed the Chief Justice, Sir Gibbs Salika that he looks forward to receiving the judiciary's plans for reform and committed in principal in order to make available funding to build facilities like the Bialla Court facilities, in districts right across the country.
Meanwhile, the PM went on to discourage the people of Nakanai from getting involved in law and order issues that will see them come before the courts.
He stated that this will help the government spend the money saved towards improving health and education in the country. He explained that when there is an increase in unlawful activities, the government will have to use the limited financial resources available to pay for police personnel to address issues, leaving limited or no funds to go towards infrastructure development, improved health care and education services.
He reiterated the same message he gave to the people of Talasea earlier that when his government came into office after the 2022 National General Election, they had five development agendas that they wanted to see improved.
âThe five main development agendas are economic development, infrastructure development, improved Health and Education, and Law & Order in which we need to improve."
Whilst the government implements the work for infrastructure and improved health, education and economic development, the improvement of law and order is everyone's responsibility, including all levels of government and the public service.
Furthermore, PM Marape also pledged to make available funding for the construction of a district hospital for Nakanai in Bialla.
