A total of 395 Grade 10 students from Gordon's Secondary School are currently sitting for their Written Expression Exams today, June 5th, 2025. These students join 87, 990 grade 10 students from 514 secondary and high schools, including 48 private permitted schools who also sat the Written Expression exams this morning. This was confirmed by the school's Principal Mr. George Wek Kenega. He also said that since the school did not have a new hall yet, students occupied both the grade 9 and 10 classrooms, in that way students were given enough space away from one another to prevent cheating from occurring and to fulfil exam location requirements. “There are 8 classes of grade 10 as well as 8 classes of grade 9s.” "The grade 9s were sent home and will return tomorrow for regular classes." Four invigilators were present for the exams; One from Jubilee Catholic Secondary School, one from Asia Pacific College, and two from New Erima Junior High School. He applauded the students’ punctuality and wished only the best for his students. “We hope our students do well.”

TIPS TO PREP FOR WRITTEN EXPRESSION EXAM TIPS TO PREP FOR WRITTEN EXPRESSION EXAM
The Written Expression Examination is coming up for Grade 10s throughout the country, in fact it's tomorrow, and even after sitting for your mock exams, you might still feel a little nervous, after all, this is your first Written Expression Exam. Well, here are few study tips to help you out before and on the day of your exam. Understand the Question Read the question more than once to understand. Identify the type of writing required: Narrative (story) Descriptive Expository (explain an idea) Argumentative (give your opinion) Formal letter Structure Your Writing  Essay Format Introduction Brief and clear. State what the essay is about and your main idea. Body Paragraphs (2–3) Each paragraph should: Have one main idea Be supported by examples or explanations Use linking words (e.g., firstly, however, for example) Conclusion Restate the main idea. End with a strong closing sentence. Writing Tips  Use Simple, Clear English Avoid using big words you’re not sure about (no need to show off). Make sure your ideas are easy to understand. DO NOT use slangs or Tok Pisin!  Stick to the Topic Don’t go off-track—every paragraph must relate to the main question.  Use Paragraphs Properly Leave a line between each paragraph or indent the first line. Start each new idea in a new paragraph.  Use Connectors and Transitions These help your ideas flow smoothly: To begin: Firstly, In the beginning To add: Also, Furthermore, In addition To contrast: However, On the other hand To conclude: In conclusion, Finally After Writing Check your work (yes, your teachers were right): Spelling Punctuation Capital letters (start of sentences, names, places) Sentence structure (no run-on sentences) Check word count: Aim for 250–300 words, depending on the instructions. Too short = lost marks. Too long = may go off-topic or have more errors.  Final Exam Tips Practice writing essays before the exam (your mock exam helped but practice makes perfect). Read news articles or essays to learn how ideas are presented. Arrive early and stay calm during the exam. Spend the first 5–10 minutes planning your answer. And yes, your teachers were right all along.

VIOLENCE HAS NO PLACE IN OUR COMMUNITIES| MARUM VIOLENCE HAS NO PLACE IN OUR COMMUNITIES| MARUM
East New Britain Governor, Michael Marum expressed his disappointment towards the recent incident of a school fight among students during their inter-school sports carnival in the city of Kokopo, as well as acknowledging police efforts in de-escalating the situation. He stated that what should have been a time of unity, sportsmanship, and celebration of youth talent has been stained by disorderly actions. “Such acts of violence have no place in our schools or communities. They undermine the values of respect, discipline, and pride that we, as a province, have worked hard to uphold.” “It is disheartening to witness young individuals, who symbolize the future of East New Britain, engaging in actions that jeopardize public safety and tarnish the reputation of their schools and our province as a whole.” He then commended the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) officers in Kokopo for their immediate response. "Their presence and timely intervention were crucial in preventing further harm and restoring order." Governor Marum also called on parents to take initiative in guiding their children to become responsible adults. "The foundation of good citizenship starts with strong parental involvement and moral guidance. He is tasking the province’s Education Board to evaluate the incident and take concrete steps—through policies, awareness, and stronger school partnerships—to ensure that such offences do not reoccur. “The safety and well-being of our students must remain a top priority.” He urged school administrations, parents, and community leaders to collaborate effectively in tackling the underlying issues of these incidents. “We need to guarantee that our sporting events are secure and significant for every participant and spectator.” “I encourage our youth to make prudent decisions, show respect for each other, and take pride in representing their schools and communities with honour.”

A MINECRAFT MOVIE: A MOVIE REVIEW BY PNGHAUSBUNG A MINECRAFT MOVIE: A MOVIE REVIEW BY PNGHAUSBUNG
Title: A Minecraft Movie (2025) Director: Jared Hess Rating: PG Genre(s): Adventure, Fantasy, Comedy Run Time: 1hr 41mins Star(s): Jason Momoa • Jack Black • Emma Myers • Jennifer Coolidge • Sebastian Eugene Hansen • Danielle Brooks MINECRAFT – VISUALLY APPEALING, SHALLOW NARRATIVE Four misfits who are Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), Natalie (Emma Myers), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks), get sucked by a mysterious portal into Overworld, an unusual, animated, cubic wonderland that thrives on creativity and imagination. In order to get back home, they must navigate the terrain while accomplishing a quest guided by a crafter named Steve (Jack Black). Jason Momoa in a kid’s movie brings out his goofy side, which is an interesting watch. Emma Myers delivers a decent performance of an older sibling trying to take on parental roles. Sebastian Eugene Hansen fits into the role of a social misfit well. Jack Black on the other hand has played multiple similar roles before. He needs to diversify. Director Jared Hess blends CGI animation and live action into A Minecraft Movie, creating a nerd heaven for both Minecraft players and movie buffs into a single story. The cinematography is basic but works well. The film was shot in Auckland, New Zealand. The inclusion of Steve as a live-action character instead of an animated player brings authenticity and connection for Minecraft users. A Minecraft Movie is a film that stays true to the source material while also exercising creativity that adds to the production rather than diminish or degrade the source. One of the most forgettable elements of the film is the piglin villain, Malgosha. Although Rachael House is a good voice actress, Malgosha wasn’t the best character for her. Perhaps more development into her actions in the film would’ve salvaged her character. The film lacks meaningful character development. For instance, conflict resolution between siblings Natalie and Henry was a missed opportunity to delve deeper into the issues of kids who are social outcasts because of their hobbies and interests. It may appeal to kids visually but leaves those seeking a deeper narrative unsatisfied. It also serves as a reminder that translating interactive experiences into film can be challenging and requires more than just visual appeal but a great narrative as well. Certain fighting scenes are not suitable for a really young audience. Rating 7/10.

PANTHERS OVER THE EELS 18 - 10 PANTHERS OVER THE EELS 18 - 10
The referee blew time on an enthralling half of football, with both sides throwing plenty at their opponents. Penrith absorbed a mountain of pressure through the middle stages of the half, with Parramatta throwing plenty at their opponents and coming agonisingly close on multiple occasions. The momentum started to shift in the final five minutes of the period, with Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary starting to open up some holes in the defence. The Eels, however, scrambled desperately to stay within two at half-time. Panthers 6 - Eels 4. As is expected, star halfback Nathan Cleary took control of the match in the final 20 minutes to lift his team to an 18-10 victory. Parramatta were gallant in defeat and hit the front when Josh Addo-Carr scored in the 45th minute but they could not go with their opponents when the Panthers elevated the intensity. DCE'S CAPTAIN'S KNOCK DCE'S CAPTAIN'S KNOCK
The Sea Eagles have produced a razzle dazzle first half showing, piling on four tries and having two disallowed as they take a 22-6 lead over the Broncos. Captain and halfback Daly Cherry-Evans has had a hand in each try as he attempts to convince Maroons coach Billy Slater to stick by him for Origin II in Perth. Lehi Hopoate was electric at fullback, while rookie winger Clayton Faulalo was having the game of his short NRL career, scoring two tries and bombing a third after losing the ball over the line. Manly have won four games in which they led at halftime and lost six in which they trailed so far this season. Daly Cherry-Evans made a compelling case to retain his Maroons No.7 jersey after leading the Sea Eagles to an emphatic 28-6 defeat of the Broncos at 4 Pines Park. Manly were without Tom and Jake Trbojevic, and coming off a disappointing loss to the Eels, but dominated the game from the outset to blow the Broncos off the field. Just three days after becoming the oldest player in State of Origin history, Cherry-Evans backed up to produce a captain's knock as the Sea Eagles inflicted Brisbane's sixth loss in their last seven outings. DCE’S EX-TEAMMATE CLAIMS ROOSTERS DEAL ‘DONE’ AS SHOCK CONTENDERS EMERGE — WHISPERS DCE’S EX-TEAMMATE CLAIMS ROOSTERS DEAL ‘DONE’ AS SHOCK CONTENDERS EMERGE — WHISPERS
The Dolphins or Roosters ... or will it be the Cowboys, or even French club Catalans in the Super League? Daly Cherry-Evans has officially closed the door on re-signing with the Sea Eagles, meaning he’ll either retire at season’s end or play on with another club in 2026. The Roosters and Dolphins are the two NRL clubs that are most likely to pursue DCE, but CODE Sports is reporting that the star half is open to a move to France to play for Super League team Catalans; while a former Maroons teammate reckons he’s a done deal at the Roosters, and his current Queensland coach is touting the Cowboys. Catalans have several former NRL stars on contract this year, including Luke Keary, Elliott Whitehead and Tevita Pangai Junior. According to CODE Sports, Cherry-Evans’ wife Vessa is close to Keary’s wife Amy. Despite the Catalans link, former NRL star Corey Parker believes Cherry-Evans will be playing for the Roosters next year. “If you look at the links, Daly’s manager also manages James Tedesco. “I’m extremely surprised he is leaving Manly but you don’t make that call if you haven’t got something else lined up.” Queensland coach Billy Slater says the Cowboys make sense, given their struggles to find an elite halves partner for Tom Dearden and DCE’s background as a Mackay Brothers junior. “To be honest, I don’t think we know all the details so it’s really hard to give you an opinion on what’s happening without knowing and understanding everything, but yeah it is sad because you know he’s spent 15 years of his life and his whole football career at Manly,” Slater told 104.5 Triple M Breakfast in Brisbane. “He’s a premiership player there and he’s playing extremely well so it does seem a little bit strange that he’s not going to be there next year. “You know, the Cowboys is another option. He spent a lot of his growing up in Mackay, which is Cowboys country, they’re there in the market, I would say, for a halfback.” Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have officially pulled out of the race to sign Cherry-Evans with Phil Gould denying the club will make a play for his services. Danny Weidler tweeted Gould’s emphatic stance on Cherry-Evans on X formerly Twitter. “I really admire DCE as a person,” Gould said. “He’s an ornament to the game. Obviously I’ve been a fan of his football his whole career. But Daly Cherry-Evans will not be coming to the Bulldogs.” Manly have a hit list to replace halfback Daly Cherry-Evans, with Broncos No.7 Adam Reynolds one of a number of key targets. The Daily Telegraph reported Reynolds and Titans veteran Kieran Foran are in Manly’s sights after Cherry-Evans rejected the club’s last ditch two year $1.5 million extension offer. Reynolds’ name has reportedly been discussed along with Raiders halfback Jamal Fogarty as Manly shift their attention to potential replacements with the money they had earmarked for Cherry-Evans. Foran is another name, with the former Sea Eagles premiership winner off-contract with the Titans at the end of the 2025 season and he could potentially have returned for his third stint with the club — though on Thursday night he ruled out returning to Manly. Manly have high hopes for young halves Joey Walsh and Onitoni Large who they have on long-term deals. But the two young gun playmakers may be at least 12 months away from being ready to become permanent NRL players. Foran spent seven years at Manly, winning a premiership in 2011 before moving to Parramatta at the end of the 2015 season on a big-money deal. He eventually returned to Manly for the 2021 and 2022 seasons before finding a home at the Gold Coast Titans, where he is off contract at the end of the year but also nearing the end of his career, having endured a torrid time with injuries. Reynolds is off-contract at the end of the season and the Broncos face an uphill battle to retain a large chunk of their squad including Kotoni Staggs, Selwyn Cobbo and Payne Haas in the next couple of seasons. Fogarty is off-contract with the Raiders, who are believe Ethan Strange and Ethan Sanders as their long-term halves. Fogarty’s management requested permission from the Raiders to open negotiations with rival clubs during the off-season, however, Canberra officials rejected the approach. Complicating matters is a clause in Fogarty’s Raiders contract, whereby the club has until round six to take up a $650,000 deal for next year. If the Raiders don’t take up the club option, Fogarty will become a free agent in just over two weeks. He also has a player option in his contract, which means he can take up by round 20 to stay at the Raiders in 2026. Stuart and the Raiders are refusing to deal with Fogarty’s agent, Tas Bartlett, and will instead meet with Chris Orr from the same management company. Source: www.foxsports.com.au
