LA SALLE STUDENTS BEGIN GRADE 10 NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS

Over 300 Grade 10 students at La Salle Technical Secondary School in Port Moresby are sitting their National Examinations today; specifically, Mathematics and Personal Development, following weeks of preparation by teachers and students.

Principal Br Antony Samy Pancras said the school began preparing students well ahead of the examinations through weekend and Sunday classes, peer teaching and group study sessions.

Br Antony said, adding that he expects the school’s Grade 10 students to perform among the top in the country this year.

“We have a great confidence in our students, and I am expecting all of them to proceed to grade 11 this year.”

The 303 students, include 146 males and 157 females. Br Antony said the school has maintained strong attendance, with students continuing to attend classes and study together even outside normal school hours.

The school has also put El Nino measures in place to support students during the examination period, including water reserves, drinking-water stations, shower facilities and a breakfast program for students who arrive early at school.

Br Antony said Grade 12 students have also been encouraged to study at school, where they can use the school’s backup power supply and avoid distractions at home.

With student safety, Br Antony highlighted common issues of bag-snatching particularly at the bus stops.

“We have encouraged the parents to drop off their kids and pick them up.”

He added that the school supports students with basic stationary.

In regard to the school’s excellent results, Br Antony credited the school’s strong performance to the teamwork and commitment of both teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as the hard work of students.

“It’s not a one-man job. It’s everyone’s job.”

La Salle joins 84,596 students from the 547 high and secondary schools throughout the country to sit for their exams.
